Congo movie

A Brilliant, Gritty B-Movie Classic – Not For Kids!

Rating: 4.5 / 5 Stars

I love this movie, and catching it for free on Tubi is the perfect way to experience it. Look, I know the entire scenario is completely unrealistic. You have to go into it knowing exactly what it is. The whole setup of taking a gorilla back to the deep jungle, while a corporate tech company uses the safari to track down their lost people and find rare diamonds, is totally over-the-top. Add in a hidden city from the time of King Solomon and a brutal tribe of killer apes that have somehow survived for centuries to guard it, and it is pure fiction. But you don't watch a movie like this for facts—you watch it for the sheer entertainment value.

What makes Congo so good is the way it handles its tone. It features fantastic comedic effects and plenty of lighthearted jokes, but then, out of absolutely nowhere, it pivots. Suddenly, it gets incredibly dark and people are getting their throats cut completely out by mutant primates.

Because of that sharp contrast between the comedy and the sudden, intense violence, it is definitely not a movie for everybody, and it is certainly not for kids. But if you are an adult who can appreciate a wild, unpredictable, and highly entertaining ride, this is a really good movie. Turn your brain off, forget about realism, and go watch it right now.
